Information

This photograph shows a fragment of tablet V of the Epic of Gilgamesh. The fifth tablet of this epic tells the tale of the king Gilgamesh and the wild man Enkidu battling with and killing the giant Humbaba, guardian of the Cedar Forest. The Epic of Gilgamesh is one of history’s earliest references to wrestling, and likely the earliest of any sport.
